Flintlock Pistol in .36 calibar

This is a 36 caliber flintlock pistol, stocked in Maple that has a light walnut stain. The stock is finished in oil based polyurethane. The rifled barrel is from Green Mountain, 9 ¾ inches long, 13/16 across the flats with a 1 in 16” twist. It has been finished a nice chocolate brown. The barrel has a stepped crown like a target rifle for accuracy and easy loading. This crown also gives more protection to the rifling at the muzzle.

The lock is a small Siler built from a kit. It has been well tuned and sparks well. The touchhole liner is stainless steel and is located in the “sunrise” position above the pan. This gives a good fast flame to ignite the main powder charge. This lock will ignite the new 777 powder now available using 4f black powder for priming.

The Hammer is engraved with a fern pattern. The lock plate is browned to match the barrel.

The trigger guard and ramrod thimbles are nickel silver and have no engraving. A bottom view shows silver wire inlays between the trigger guard and the entry pipe. A brass tipped hickory ramrod is fitted under the barrel; the tip is threaded for a jag or other accessories.

The top view shows relief carving in a shell around the tang. The sights are small fixed and primitive.

The muzzle cap is poured pewter. Over all length is 15 inches, weight is 2.5 pounds. Pistols in this style were rare and few specimens have survived, making this hand built replica a good addition for re-enactors or as a companion piece to a .36 caliber rifle. Pistols are as time consuming and difficult to build as a long rifle, requiring almost as many hours to complete. They tend to cost as much or more than a rifle of the same style and caliber.
